supermarket obdach

in contrast to many other areas on the outskirts of town, two building structures of the supermarket (warehouse and front store), slightly offset from each other, as well as the ‘old primary school’ located opposite, guide people arriving in town to the densely built-up area of the medieval town centre.
the supermarket entrance faces the town and is connected to the town’s network of footpaths on two sides – pedestrians are on equal footing with customers arriving in motorised vehicles.

a (soon-to-be) densely vegetated pergola welcomes the customers and protects the southern facade from sunlight throughout the year. the car park to the east leads down to the stream into free nature and is planted with tall canopy trees that provide shade.

permeable parking spots, green roofs equipped with a pv system, and flower meadows offering nesting opportunities for birds and insects aim to compensate for the sealed surface.

shading the concrete surfaces significantly reduces overheating in summer. excess rainwater from the extensive green roof is channelled below ground to the shade trees in the car park, where a special ‘sponge city foundation’ ensures the trees can flourish. parallel to the southern facade, a base taking the form of a seating step with integrated plant troughs shields the entrance area from the drive aisle, invites customers to take a rest and is home to climbing plants and vines, which are watered with rainwater collected on the projecting roof. once again, the ‘sponge city construction’ below the plant troughs, which are open at the bottom, serves as a nutrient and water reserve.

due to these and other technical interventions, this project has been awarded the greenpass gold certification and the EU green building certification.

to accommodate the rooms of the klangforum wien, much of the four-storey building was gutted and adapted. a previous production room featuring abundant rooflights was redesigned to serve as a spacious rehearsal room and studio. the wooden sprung floor in this room reflects the architects’ expertise in room acoustics particularly well: the previous asphalt flooring, the technical facilities and the air volume are now covered by soft spruce wood. the upper building floors house the administrative offices of the klangforum.

one year of vignobles du sud-ouest

within its relatively short existence, the small vinotheque vignobles du sud-ouest has firmly established itself in the viennese wine scene. the wines from south-west france with their fruity aromas and the continued reasonable pricing have never stood a better chance than today in these times of price madness.

the expanding law office höhne & in der maur decided to move to new premises in a corner building on mariahilfer strasse, planned by Georg Lippert and constructed in the late 1960s. the layout of the building was designed according to the standards of the time, resulting in a relatively narrow, dark central corridor lined by office cubicles. lichtblauwagner architekten gutted the building, thus creating extensive “public” spaces in the form of internal streets and squares, which house communal facilities, such as photocopiers, the library, waiting and meeting rooms, and the archive. the ample space and the diversity of possible uses promote interaction and internal communication in everyday life in the law office. this low-energy office building in gleisdorf utilises a technically complex ventilation system with a heating and cooling function as well as a supply of conditioned fresh air. specially planted trees in front of the glass facade serve as a ‘technical’ element of shading and seasonally regulate the amount of sunlight penetrating the glass facade. the volume of the open rooms and the transparent shell of the building bring out the light-coloured furniture designed by the architects to tremendous effect.
